DescriptionFinancial records of the British Economic Association to 1903, the Royal Economic Society thereafter.
There are long runs of cash books (1890-1972) and ledgers (1890-1956). The rest of the material is either early (1890-1913) or recent (1970s onwards). Early material includes pass books, papers on the Guarantee Fund which ensured the publication of the first Economic Journal, and other accounting papers. Material from the 1970s onwards includes reports and accounts (incomplete), financial policy, discussion papers and other miscellaneous financial papers including VAT, audits and stock valuations.
The RES cash books, ledgers and journal were among the first RES archives to be deposited at BLPES Archives, in 1979 by the then Secretary-General, Aubrey Silberston. The other early accounting papers were included in the Early Records of the RES deposit in 1985.
Related material:
There is a small amount of financial material in the Publications files (sections 8-10) which relates to financial results of particular publications, in the Keynes Edition files (section 9) on the Keynes Edition, and in the Economic Journal files (sections 5 and 7) on the Economic Journal.
