TitlePhotographic prints
Ref NoSHAW PHOTOGRAPHS/1
LevelSeries
Date1860s-1977
Extent[c.10,000 items]
DescriptionPhotographic prints including portraits of Shaw both self and by others, his circle of friends and associates such as fellow Fabians, writers, performers, theatre patrons and family. There are also images featuring his homes at Adelphi Terrace, Whitehall Court and Shaw's Corner and of trips he made including to New Zealand, South Africa and Algeria. Also included are positives on glass, including colour images.

Please note many images have not got straight edges so the measurements given in the measurements field is a guide only. Please also note dates in the date field refer to the original picture [creation] date unless stated, in some cases reprints were created years after the original image was captured and thus are a modern yet still contemporaneous to Shaw print.

The prints were arranged by the National Trust and re-packaged in this order 2006-2010: this numbering of the prints has been retained for practical reasons, meaning some items are paper and not photographic based eg drawings and there is no hierarchy/order to the prints. Please note, prior to their transferral to LSE the physical storage location eg Shaw's Corner or Queens Gate [former National Trust head office] was written on the verso of some prints: these locations have not been transcribed in the inscription field so as to avoid confusion.
[Items dated post-1950 were accrued by the National Trust and added to the collection before 1979.]
